After quitting over a year ago, I’m back in the gym again. Let me tell you, my relationship with the gym is long, and it’s complicated. No, seriously. I know that sounds extreme considering this is not a dating relationship and we’re talking about a business, but honestly it is the most awkward relationship I have. If you remember, I talked about how I quit the gym and the anxiety it created while I was there. You can check that out here. But while Jess and I both quit at one point, I’m back in the gym – again.

I would say that I started really working out when I was in college. A girlfriend and I would go in the evenings to the Huff (Huffman Center for you OU peeps out there), and work out and check out boys. Haha! But seriously. We would go like three times a week, and we were actually working out, but also checking out too. Call it multi-tasking. After a while, I started working out on my own and didn’t need to go with friends and just always got it in and got it done. After college it took me some time to get back in the gym, but when I was back…I was BACK. I was working out a lot. Getting personal trainers, working out on my own, wanting to compete in fitness competitions, then something snapped. I couldn’t do it anymore. Honestly, I as creating a bad pattern: get really into it, go a little too hard and too much, burn out and quit for months, only to start the process all over again. So, here we are again.

With COVID back on the rise, it is tough for some to consider to go back to the gym, but this couldn’t be a better time for me. I’m getting older (birthday is at the end of the week – oh sh*t), and time is not on my side. Let’s be real, its there ever a good time to do anything these days? If we wait around for the perfect time, it may never come.

I got back in the gym for my own sanity. This time, I’m gonna take it slow and steady and not set any goals that are overtly unrealistic and unobtainable. I’m going to treat the gym more as therapy for daily stressors and just overall self care. This is no longer a race and competition. This is just maintenance for my self. I set out time for my nails, hair, lashes, and everything else. I should be able to set out at least 30 minutes to just move my own body. No personal trainers, no nothing – well, just the Alexia Clark app that I love – for now. Just going based on vibes. That leads me to my last question – how do you move your body? Are you a studio workout person or are you killing it in the gym?

If you’ve been ever curious on how to just move here are a few posts I’ve written on some of my favorite workouts.
