Meet Tori Martinez, our Student Ambassador to the University of Alabama. Here’s her inside on crimson traditions. Enjoy!
When I was applying to colleges I knew tradition was something that was a must for the college I attend. Needless to say I chose the perfect school that could appeal to my needs. That school if you couldn’t guess by the title is The University of Alabama.
At Alabama one tradition is football season. It’s not even a tradition to the Alabama student’s, it’s more of a lifestyle. During football season there are a few traditions that you must know when attending a game. Here they are:
1) Game Day Dresses:
At Alabama the women wear black, crimson or white dresses and as the weather drops, girls start to add some cute fur vests and you can always find a Bama girl having a shaker in her boot. Sometimes you will even see Alumni wearing their hounds tooth proud.
2)“Roll Tide”
It isn’t just a phrase at our school it’s a saying we use on a daily basis. It is just one of those things we say everyday whether we win a game or if we are just holding a door open. Its just something we do, it is in our culture.
3) Dixieland Delight
This is the go to song by Alabama for us no matter what, well this and Sweet Home Alabama. When this song comes on all the students get all excited and start saying random chants in between each verse. It’s something that brings all of the students together.
4) Walk of Champions
This is one of the best game day traditions at Alabama. All the fans whether they are students or people who are Crimson Tide fans all line up on the sides and get to see the players walk down to the stadium with the infamous head coach, Nick Saban.
5) Yellow Hammers
Yellow Hammers are something the upperclassmen at Alabama enjoy and everyone in Tuscaloosa knows where to find them…none other than Gallettes. This drink will have you feeling rowdy for an Alabama football game and ready to go. Yellow Hammers have vodka, dark rum, Malibu rum, pineapple juice and orange juice. Have two of these and you will be screaming, “Roll Tide” all the way to the Bryant-Denny Stadium.
