Well I crossed off another ballpark and checked out the Kansas City Royals for gameday! It was a quick 36-hour trip but I made the most of it! I joined up with my girl Sade, of The Glamour Fanatic. If you’re not following her on Instagram, take this moment to do so now. Done? Okay, good! Now, let’s talk Kansas City. I’ve got the place to stay, a few places to hang, and some things to do if you have time before the game. Here is our weekend’s rundown.
Stay:
Kansas City Marriott Downtown – Fly into MCI and head right on downtown. It’s about a 20-minute Uber ride. Right in the heart of downtown, you are able to walk right over to the Power Light District where there are many restaurants and shops. This Marriott is very nice including an updated elevator bank. The views from the hotel are gorgeous. Take advantage of the hotel restaurant for breakfast or lunch. For $16 dollars you can visit the buffet. French toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits, – all of it! FYI, I didn’t see a Starbucks around, but I also didn’t look.
Eat:
Jack Stack BBQ – Kansas City BBQ. Say. No. More.
Buffalo State Pizza Company – Perfect for after a ballgame in the hotel. They sell by the slice or the pie. A slice can easily be shared by two people if you aren’t very hungry. I had the Don Pepe and it is so delicious! Sade had the Pesto Pete and enjoyed it as well! Buffalo State also delivers to the hotel!
Power & Light District – This is where you want to hang downtown. There’s a variety of restaurants and in walking distance of Marriott Downtown. Also there’s an Insomnia Cookie. That’s all you need!
See and Play:
Negro Leagues Museum – If you are in Kansas City for a Royals game, make it a point to get to the Negro Leagues Museum. This was number one of Sade and I’s to do list. Actually the game and the museum were our priorities. You don’t want to miss this museum. So much important baseball history is showcased in the museum. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children. The museum opens at 10 am on Saturdays which is perfect for a 3:10 pitch or night game. Grab some lunch after and head to the game!
Also located with the Negro Leagues Museum is the American Jazz Museum. They are in the same building so you can check out both! Other museums include: WWI Memorial and Museum, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Science City at Union Station (great for kids!).
Kauffman Stadium:
The K! Kauffman Stadium is one of the oldest ballparks but you wouldn’t know it! Kauffman opened in 1973 and is one of the prettiest stadiums I have been to. Did you know that Hallmark designed the Kansas City Royals’ crown logo? Well, now you do! Logistically, you will need to Uber to the ballpark, unless you rented a car. There are hotels right near the stadium (FYI Chiefs’ Arrowhead stadium is RIGHT next to Kauffman!) but if you want to be in the midst of it all, stay downtown! The ballpark itself is pretty easy. We sat along the first base line and had a great view of everything. There are many concession stands available – I know some ballparks have had limited concessions due to COVID. There is a Dunkin Donuts and pretty much anything you can ever want. I didn’t try anything special – I was stuffed after our pregame at Jack Stack. I did grab a funnel cake at the ballpark! Next time I go back I do want to try the BBQ Pork Fries. I was told to try those and didn’t get to!
Are you headed to Kauffman or Kansas City for a game? Let me know!
